There are actually not many reasons why your GE air conditioner does not cool the house. The most problematic of them is a refrigerant (freon) leak, and without a skillful repair assistant it will not be possible to fix it. But we will leave this version for specialists, because there are several issues that can be eliminated on our own.
- Hold your hand up to the vents in each room to determine whether there is a complete lack of airflow or if airflow is restricted in only certain areas. Make sure the registers are completely open.
- If there is a lack of airflow, make sure your air conditioner is on. If the unit is on but the fan is not running, lower the temperature setting until you hear the fan kick on.
- If the fan does kick on, but airflow is still restricted, check your air filter. If it is dirty, replace it.
- Check to see if your air conditioner evaporator coil is frozen. If it is, turn off the unit and allow the coil to deice. If the coil is not frozen, and you still have a lack of airflow, contact a Pro.
Sure, the issue may concern proper functioning of some other A/C parts. Air conditioner blower or fan is one of the key components that is needed as part of the air conditioning system. The function of the blower is to produce air movement to the space that is being conditioned. Too much stress may cause a fan motor to burn out. With time, the motor may also burn out due to wear and tear. Give us a call to make a maintenance appointment.
