If one day your GE dryer does not turn on, a qualified troubleshooter should be called as soon as possible. The device has a complex circuitry, therefore, self-repair in 99% of cases guarantees a worsening of the situation. Such factors as faulty wiring, blown fuse or motor, defective belt, and many others can affect your dryer performance. If you have experience in fixing electric appliances, you can try to check the belt for the wear. If it is so, replace it. Unplug the dryer. If the plug can be reached without moving the dryer, the dryer probably won't have to be moved. Use a putty knife to press the clips holding the lid in place. Lift the lid. Look at the existing belt. If it looks worn, it will need to be replaced. Disconnect the electrical connection for the door switch from the front of the dryer. Remove the screws holding the front cover of the dryer in place. Lift up the front cover, and pull it off the dryer. Cut the dryer belt with scissors, and pull the drum straight out so the motor and pulley are easily accessible. The belt will be threaded around an idle pulley and looped over the drive shaft. The idle pulley helps keep the belt tight. Place the new belt around the drum so that the rubber surface touches the drum. The rubber surface has ridges that help it keep good traction. Set the drum back into place so that it rests on the rollers inside the dryer. Use a bungee cord to hold up the front of the drum. Reach underneath the drum to access the drive shaft. Set the idle pulley in position if necessary. The pulley snaps into two grooves in the cabinet body. Loop the belt under the idle pulley, and attach it to the drive shaft. Replace the front of the dryer, and attach the top by reversing the removal procedure. Fortunately, there is no need to take risks with DIY.
