Some GE washer owners are interested if they can replace drum bearings. It is possible despite the fact we don’t recommend doing it yourself. You really need to be careful when dealing with parts like drums, tubs, and seals. Repairs like that are often quite expensive to have a professional perform. And while you may be able to perform the work yourself, there is the chance you may need special tools to get in. Drum bearings sit at the back of the drum and allow the inner drum unit to turn nice and smooth. If you have a direct intention to replace it personally, follow next steps. Obviously, one should not abuse or neglect an appliance, on the basis that it will probably be cheaper and easier to replace it when it goes bad. A washing machine should not be overloaded, or filled with excess detergent, or allowed to get very dirty and caked up, nor any other abuse. Use it gently, and nothing will go wrong for quite a long time. But with any appliance, give really serious thought to replacement instead of repair, when something big goes wrong. Hiring a skilled technician would lead to a bill perhaps larger than the cost of a new machine. Doing it yourself, a realistic option if you are good with tools, would save a couple of hundred bucks, maybe more. If you don’t want to meet a dead end and replace your washer, react in advance. Regular maintenance and proper cleaning protect your appliance and prevent troubleshooting. Take care of your washing machine and arrange a plumber visit at least every six months (or more often if the unit isn’t new).
