Before you start calling a contractor to come and see your unit, we should tell you it’s normal for your air conditioner to create some condensation. In fact, your condenser likely has a drain pan underneath to collect droplets. But if your drain pan is overflowing and you notice water around the unit, you may have a problem.
Humid air usually condenses on the evaporator’s cool surface and turns to liquid water which then is exited using a drain tube via a drain pan. From the pan, the water flows into a drain tube which is typically routed into a pan below. Unfortunately, mold and algae can grow over time and plug the pipe which might lead to flooding. You’ll need to use a dry or wet vacuum to clear the drain. You may have a clog in your drain line. If you’re able to open your drain line, you can use a garden hose to flush it out. Let the water run through for a few minutes. Alternatively, you can connect a shop vacuum cleaner to the drain line and try to suck out any mold or debris blockages.
Check your air filter as well. Dirt and dust from the filter may be causing a blockage. Replace it if necessary.
