It doesn’t really matter if you use a Kenmore dryer or another brand, a weird noise may appear one day. Constant rotating leads to such issues. In fact, even if you don’t overload your dryer, the trouble will appear with the time. There are three main parts which are guilty in the problem. Start checking with a dryer drive belt. A slipping drive belt may be frayed, cut or otherwise damaged so it no longer performs effectively. In many cases, after years of use, the belt stretches, loses grip, then squeals and smokes. A damaged belt must be replaced for proper dryer drum function. Then, the idler pulley wheel keeps tension on the belt to prevent it from slipping. When the pulley wheel no longer turns effectively, the drive belt begins to squeal and smoke as it rubs over the non-turning idler pulley wheel. The pulley wheel is mounted on a simple metal axle. In most cases, the wheel stops turning because the axle or idler pulley bearings are no longer functional. The entire idler pulley assembly is replaceable, and can be replaced by anyone with solid do-it-yourself experience. Finally, drum bearings require a diagnostic. If the drive belt and idler pulley are intact, squealing and smoking may be coming from the dryer drum bearings. The bearings are located on the rear of the drum, and by putting your ear directly against the back of the dryer, you will be able to isolate the noise. This also can be a do-it-yourself task, but you have to remove most of the dryer cabinet to access the rear drum bearing. Contact our customer support for more information. We will be glad to help you with resolving the noisy issue and return your Kenmore dryer to normal working condition.
