There are a couple of simple tips that protect your dryer from troubleshooting. The risk of power problems drops significantly if you follow the instructions. Do not put dry laundry in the machine. To dry slightly damp laundry, always use a time-controlled program. Always choose a short drying time, otherwise the laundry may overheat and become wrinkled! Do not use the dryer if the drum is empty or not full enough. Unluckily, every owner can experience a breakdown one day. If your Maytag dryer finishes the cycle just after starting or starts up for a short time, but immediately goes to the end of the program, it may be a power issue. Check your household fuse box for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker. Maytag's electric dryers require two fuses or circuit breakers - one for mechanical operation and one for heat - so you may need to reset the breaker or replace both fuses. Ensure that your dryer is plugged into an outlet capable of providing adequate power; Maytag's units typically require 240 volts of power. The power supply cord may be incorrectly installed. If the power cord is incorrectly installed, the dryer may not start or heat. Review the Installation Instructions to check that the power supply cord is properly installed. Also, ensure the terminal screws are tight at the dryer, unplug the dryer before checking terminal screws. Electric dryer uses 2 household fuses or circuit breakers. Make sure both fuses are intact and tight, or that both circuit breakers have not tripped. You can test the breaker by turning the breaker off and then back on. Replace the fuse(s) or reset the circuit breaker(s). If the problem continues, call an electrician. If the Controls Locked status light is on, depending on your model press and hold the Cycle Signal or Steam Refresh button for three seconds. This will turn off the Controls Locked feature. If the control is locked, the entire control panel is inoperable. On most models, if the control is locked, there will be a small "lock" or button that is illuminated.
