If you are unable to light your Samsung range as usual, make sure that the gas valve is open. If gas comes on, but none of the burners ignites, try sparking the knob with matches. If this succeeded, then the electric ignition system in the gas stove is faulty. The knobs on Samsung ranges are designed to meet the requirements set by international standards, which requires a two-factor mechanism. This means two movements are simultaneously required to turn on an element: pushing in and turning. The knob will not turn unless force is being applied to push it inwards. All ranges with knobs must meet this standard and Samsung is no exception. Unfortunately, even the best appliance is not immune to a breakdown. Sure, the manufacturer does not recommend DIY and asks to get professional assistance when the knobs are defective. The first thing you can and should do is to clean both the knob and the post. There’s a chance that a certain amount of grease and grit has gotten into the join between the knob and the post and it might be enough to cause significant problems. Cleaning the knob and post can also give you a clearer view of the problem and how you can solve it. Burner switch knobs pull right off, directly away from the control panel surface. There’s no clip or latch, it should pull right off. From there, soak the knob in soapy water and scrub it with a dish brush. Clean the post and control panel with a sponge. You may realize that years of drips and food residue have been building up behind that knob and getting it clean is a side benefit of replacing or repairing the cracked plastic. If the range knob is stuck in the “on” position, the number one priority on your mind before anything else will probably be turning the oven off safely. A faulty range knob can prove dangerous if it means you can no longer turn your oven off. As such, it’s important to know how to manually disconnect your range, should the situation arise. Unplug the appliance and call a professional range maintenance assistant.
