Whether you use a Sub-Zero freezer or another brand, one day it may leak unexpectedly. Track the source of the leakage. Check if the ice maker produces ice. This particular case concerned an old appliance - more than ten years of usage. Unfortunately, even new refrigerators aren’t immune to such breakdown. Before calling a pro, try out several troubleshooting scenarios. Check the water filter. If it’s been a while since you changed the filter, the mesh may have become clogged with mineral deposits, blocking water flow through the unit. Use your manual to get direct instructions on how to change the filter and you can purchase replacement Sub-Zero water filters here. For best results, Sub-Zero recommends changing the water filter every 6-12 months, depending on usage. Do make sure you’re buying certified Sub-Zero water filters—there are many counterfeit refrigerator water filters online, and not only do they perform less well, some are even made of toxic materials. You can read more about counterfeit water filters here. If the temperature is correct but the ice maker won’t work, the water inlet valve might be defective. The water inlet valve is an electrically-controlled mechanical valve that opens to supply water to the dispenser and ice maker. If the water inlet valve is defective, or if it has insufficient pressure, it won’t allow water to flow through. As a result, the ice maker won’t make ice. The valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. Make sure that the water pressure to the valve is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multimeter to check for power (continuity) to the water inlet valve. If the water inlet valve has sufficient pressure and is getting power, but the ice maker won’t fill with water to make ice, replace the water inlet valve.
