The refrigerator and freezer are household appliances used most in the kitchen. No wonder, they require proper cleaning and maintenance. Washing these devices is important for your health, and it ensures correct operation and a long service life of the appliance. Take care of your Sub-Zero refrigerator and you reduce risks of facing the Error 40 code. Unfortunately, if you already see this alarm, read this piece of information till the end. The code Error 40 means that the freezer won’t stop running. Use these steps to resolve the following error indicator:
- If temperatures are less than 10° above the set temperature, clean the condenser. Clean the condenser every six to twelve months to keep Sub-Zero refrigeration products operating their best. Clean the condenser more often if pets are present. Do not bend the aluminum fins of the condenser. Follow specific product condenser cleaning instructions as in the manual.
- If temperatures are more than 10° above the set temperature and the door was not left ajar for a long period of time, contact maintenance service to schedule an appointment for an expert diagnosis.
- If temperatures are near normal or return to normal, press and hold the door ajar alarm key for 15 seconds to clear the error code. Do not clear the error code if temperatures are not near normal, do not return to normal, or continue to rise. If a service call is required, the service assistant will need to see the error code logged by the system.
For 700 Series products, make sure the kickplate is not completely covered by custom toe kick or enclosed in custom cabinetry. Even if a unit has worked like this for years, it can cause issues including sealed system failure. Refer to the Sub-Zero Design Guide for design specifications. If the error code or service message returns or temperatures rise after completing these steps, service is necessary to expertly diagnose and repair the product.
