The microclimate in the house depends on the high-quality cooling of the air conditioner, and therefore, the performance of the people at work or family comfort during rest at home also are closely linked to that. Hence, this is the most important function of any air conditioner - to cool down. Unfortunately, there are many factors that reduce the cooling quality of any air conditioner. Often they lead to the fact that the conditioner stops cooling the air at all. In such cases, the air conditioner loses its main function. What to do in such situations? It is required to track the source of malfunction (dirty or clogged condenser coils, faulty thermostat, lack of freon, etc) and eliminate it. Most problems with cooling refer to the bad capacitor. A capacitor is a clever device composed of two metal conductors separated by an insulating material. On an air conditioner, they often look like large, cylindrical batteries with two or three posts sticking out of the top. The main job of capacitors is to store electrons to provide start-up energy for your air conditioner, they build up a charge when electricity runs through them by swapping electrons between the two conductive plates inside. Because of their capacitors, air conditioners do a little magic trick every time they start up. The capacitor’s job is over until an air conditioning cycle is complete. Then the compressor must start up again. Your air conditioner may actually contain several different capacitors, including the compressor motor run capacitor, the outside fan motor run capacitor, the indoor fan motor run capacitor and the start capacitor. The most common capacitor to fail is the compressor motor run capacitor. It has a big job, and an even bigger footprint in your air conditioner. HVAC appliances are tested with a multimeter also known as a multitester or VOM. The multimeter combines multiple measurement functions in one device. Most multimeters measure current, voltage and resistance. Analog multimeters use a microammeter with a spinning pointer to mark readings. Still, we do not recommend any DIY as your malfunctioning air conditioner needs professional help.
